Three students from Highlands Latin School have been selected for the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program (GSP). Juniors Luke Robson, Levi Shinabery, and Tanay Neotia have been accepted into the program, while Brianna Gilcreast and Alex Harris have been accepted as alternates. GSP is a highly competitive summer program in which students spend five weeks studying at one of three in-state college campuses. The governor’s office and donors completely cover the cost for GSP, and students who complete the summer program receive generous scholarships from colleges and universities in the state of Kentucky.

Luke Robson is a member of the House of David and has attended HLS since kindergarten. He plays both varsity basketball and baseball and also volunteers each summer as a counselor for Camp Freedom, a program for children and adults with intellectual, developmental, and physical disabilities. Luke said that he is excited to experience life on a college campus during the program and meet the teachers involved with the different disciplines. He also said he anticipates learning “new and exciting things” at GSP.

Levi Shinabery belongs to the House of George and has been a student at HLS since first grade. He is a member of the varsity baseball and soccer teams and serves as a volunteer in his church. When asked about GSP, Levi said, “The community is going to be great.” He is also looking forward to spending time on a college campus and hopefully gaining more insight into what college life will be like, as well as what degree he would like to pursue.

Tanay Neotia is a member of the House of Patrick and actively participates in his local community. He is a member of Winner’s Circle Robo Jockeys, works at the YMCA, assists with the Norton Elementary School Robotics Club, and even started a nonprofit called Giving Art. He enjoys playing the piano, tennis, and basketball, as well as painting. Tanay also earned a perfect score of 36 on the ACT in December of 2018. When asked about his acceptance into GSP, Tanay said, “I’m excited for GSP because I think it will be fun to experience a college campus, and I’m also excited to learn new ways of thinking and new concepts in my focus area.”

Congratulations to all of the Highlands Latin School students selected for this prestigious program!
