Highlands Latin School would like to congratulate Joseph Collum for being selected for the Governor’s School of the Arts summer program. Joseph will be participating in their drama art form.
GSA is a great opportunity and I am very grateful for it. HLS has helped me develop a love and understanding of literature, and I approach theatre as visual literature and storytelling. I also came to love Shakespeare at HLS, as we have read many of his plays. HLS
Drama Troupe productions have introduced me to many aspects of theatre, as well. I hope to improve as an actor and look forward to being a part of a community of artists at GSA.

I also came to love Shakespeare at HLS, as we have read many of his plays. HLSJoseph is very active in Highland’s drama and music department. He is often soloing and playing his violin in the school choir performances and performing roles in the drama plays. He most recently played the pirate Samuel in Pirates of Penzance. As an active member of his church and community, Joseph played the role of Jesus in Sacred Heart’s Jesus Christ Superstar.
When asked about Joseph and this distinguished honor, HLS drama troupe director Teresa Boling had this to say: “Joseph is extremely talented. More importantly, he fully commits to his goals and offers nothing less than his very best effort. The GSA is a very competitive competition, and Joseph is so deserving of the recognition and opportunities it will provide. I am so honored to have the opportunity to work with him. He has been vital to the success of our start-up drama program. My only complaint is that I have to share him with other schools and commitments! Exceptional talent with a welcoming smile is always in great demand!” 
Kentucky Governor’s School for the Arts Program allows rising juniors and seniors to spend three weeks living on campus at Centre College immersed in the arts as they study and develop their selected art form. Throughout the program they also forge new friendships with other students from around the state, while working with college professors and coaches. GSA is completely paid for. Not only do accepted students attend the summer program for free, but they are also offered very generous scholarships at in-state colleges and universities.
